Dr BILL HOLLINS

Dr BILL HOLLINS undertakes consultancy for Direction Consultants that he started with his wife in 1985. He has a doctorate in Design Management from Strathclyde University and now specialises in Service design . He has been actively involved in British Standards on design management and the UK Design Council website on Service Design. He had the first book on service design management published in 1991 and his fifth book was published in 2006. He has over 120 other publications.

Bill and also teaches at various universities and has worked in twenty five countries.

Gordon Bruce

Gordon P. Bruce

Over his thirty years of experience, Mr. Bruce has had vast hands-on experience in all aspects of the design process help in planning corporate design policy and strategy (IBM, Mobil Oil, Polaroid, Samsung), writing design standards for major corporate programs, defining product, graphic, interior, and exhibit design problem statements and specifications problem definition, research, concept design, human factors / ergonomics, idea refinement, final model construction, drawing, documentation, specifications, and various forms of follow-up. He has worked with engineering, marketing, safety, manufacturing, many scientist and inventors, architects, graphic designers, human factors engineers, and all levels of management. Moreover, he wrote many design proposals, tracked progress and expenses, and made final presentations to the client's lower, middle and senior management to the CEO.

Mr. Bruce has been involved with a range of projects where the budget, scope of program, size and complexity of the project varied greatly. He has designed many hand held, table sitting, floor standing office products dictation machines, small and large computers and copiers as well as gas pumps, engines, robots, scientific equipment and many other kinds of devices. He designed products and environments where architecture, interiors, industrial design, and graphics were required to work together and convey information and design performance clearly large aircraft, rapid transit vehicles, transit station design, gas station design, exhibition design, executive aircraft design and ski area signage.

Yao Ying Jia

YAO YING JIA

In 1996, Yao Yingjia graduated from college. As the first industrial design professional brought in by Lenovo, he started his career in the industrial field. In the past ten years, Yao has continuously led the way of introducing brand-new industrial design concepts to China 's IT field. He has established the first industrial design team of Lenovo and innovatively solved the problem of product competition faced by companies in the fast-developing market.

Yao Yingjia has established the organizational structure characterized by multi-disciplinary coordination and has created the idea of design based on local Chinese culture. As a forceful tool of sharpening Lenovo's competitive edge to stand out of its peers in the market, the company's design structure and ideas of design have shed profound referential light on local Chinese design organizations. Having won a large variety of reputable international design awards, Lenovo has laid a platform where more domestic industrial designs are able to demonstrate themselves and compete with foreign peers, which contributes to the better understanding of China's design work from the international design community.

Kathryn Best

Kathryn Best

Kathryn's experience is in retail design, narrative environments, applied design management and translating brands such as Orange , Starbucks, JVC and Allied Irish Bank (AIB) into 3D environments, services and experiences. Recent clients in design strategy, process and the role of design in business include Booz Allen Hamilton, Kajima Design Europe, the Design Council, and Hanyang University/the Korean Government.

In her current role as Course Leader in Design Management, University for the Creative Arts, Kathryn is responsible for academic leadership and course management for the MA awards in Design & Strategy, Innovation & Brand Management, and Creative Enterprise.

Dr Thomas lockwood

Dr Thomas Lockwood

Dr. Lockwood holds a PhD in Design Management from the Harrow Business School, University of Westminster, London, an MBA in Design Management, and a BA in Marketing and in Visual Design. His doctoral research explored the relations between design, business and user, determining best-of-class structures and processes of integrated design management, in order to achieve design relevancy for the user, design coherency for the brand, and design innovation for the business.

Professor James Woudbuysen

James Woudhuysen

In the early and mid 1990s, James led consulting in IT at the Henley Centre, part of the WPP Group. There he also advised major UK cities London, Birmingham, Glasgow and Manchester on international competitiveness. He then went on to manage worldwide market intelligence for Philips consumer electronics in the Netherlands, and to work as a director of the product designers Seymour Powell. He went independent in 2001.

James helps clients to master new trends in society and innovation, so as to implement major shifts in corporate strategy, marketing, branding and design. He frequently broadcasts about the future of the workplace on Radio 4's You and Yours , and writes a regular column for IT Week (London) and Novo (Frankfurt). He is also on the editorial boards of New Design and the Journal of Consumer Behaviour .
